I’m honored to have three of my Van Gogh poems, “Fugitive Red,” “Sixteen Balls of Yarn and a Few Loose Strands,” and “History Whispers,” included in Menacing Hedge. Van Gogh explored so many of my own obsessions in his letters. These poems helped me organize my first full-length poetry manuscript, Fugitive Red.

“Smooth Stones” in Tinderbox Poetry Journal
I’m honored to have my poem “Smooth Stones” included in Tinderbox Poetry Journal. It’s a difficult poem, my second difficult poem to appear in Tinderbox. I greatly appreciate this beautiful journal. Tinderbox embraces the challenging work that feels like our bones.
Summer Summary
It’s as gratifying when submissions work bears fruit as it is when seeds yield their harvest. I’m excited that my poem “Smooth Stones” will be featured in September’s Tinderbox Poetry Journal, one of my favorite journals. This will be my second appearance in Tinderbox. This summer I’ve received wonderful acceptances from Whale Road Review and The American Journal of Poetry. “Bent” will appear in December in Whale Road Review, and “Pulling” will appear in January 2018 in The American Journal of Poetry. This week, the British print journal Prole launched issue #23, including my poem “Cured.” And I received my copy of Kelly Ann Jacobson’s The Way to My Heart: An Anthology of Food-Related Romance, home to my poem “A, Your Name Is Anna.” There are links to all these publications in the POETRY section of this website. I’m looking forward to sharing my work in the online journals here in the coming months.

“Night Drive” in Poetry Breakfast
I’m delighted to have another poem, “Night Drive,” included in Poetry Breakfast! So many of the streets and landmarks in my town have intriguing names — I find myself imagining stories about them.
“Stigmata” in Psaltery & Lyre
Belief and doubt are topics I return to again and again, so I was excited to discover the beautiful journal Psaltery & Lyre, which focuses on these issues.
“What I Tell You Three Times Is True” in The New Verse News
I wrote “What I Tell You Three Times Is True” during the heated presidential campaign last summer, never imagining the poem would be relevant after election day.

“The Ambassadors” in Off the Coast
I’m delighted my poem “The Ambassadors” is included in the Fall 2016 issue of Off the Coast, a terrific print journal that aims to be Maine’s international journal of poetry. It explores how domestic animals help us understand the natural world more deeply.
